Tim Hunt

First and foremost I want to thank the residents of the city of Oakland for the vote of confidence. I am honored that you have voted me as one of your new City Commissioners. One of my first priorities is to let you, the residents, know that city government is open and willing to listen to all the residents of Oakland. I will not serve on this commission as a Democrat or Republican but as a representative of all the citizens.

I do not take office until January 1, 2007 but I have already been working. I have had conversations with current state and county representatives about some issues that I see facing Oakland in the future. I have three main issues that I want to work on in the next two years. One is to sign an inter-local agreement with the county, second is to look at a city wide waste disposal contract, and third is to have a community emergency response team (CERT).

The inter-local agreement with the county is priority one. This agreement with the county will only benefit the city of Oakland. It will allow the county to maintain right-of-ways, clear streets of snow, and most importantly will help increase Sheriff's patrols. The city residents for years have been taking some of these issues upon themselves or the city has been paying for it. The county is willing to help us, so let's let them.

The city wide garbage disposal is an issue again that is going to take some time. In speaking with other small cities this has ultimately saved the city residents money. Even if the savings is minimal it is worth it. Another issue is that this will allow garbage trucks to be on our roads one day a week instead of several trucks on several days.

The community emergency response team is an initiative of the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security. It will consist of a team of at least five residents who are trained to respond to disasters in our community whether natural or manmade. There is a 21 hour training course that will have to be completed. These five residents will be the first responders to any disaster that occurs. If you are interested in being one of these five individuals please let me know.

The most important thing to keep in mind, as I share some of my ideas, is that this is your city government. I want to see more people get involved and have input into what goes on in the city of Oakland. We are a growing and thriving little community. We want to keep it that way but we also need to keep up with the growth and maintain it in a way that is beneficial to us all. I hope you enjoy the web-site and will consistently check back for updates. I hope to keep you updated on a weekly basis on happenings in Oakland.

Thank you again for the confidence you have placed in me. Please know that I am open to discuss any issue that you may have at any time.
