April 10, 2007

The April meeting of the Oakland City Commission was held April 10, 2007.  The commissioners present were John Blubaugh, Tim Hunt, and Jimmy Hopkins.  Eric Watt was absent.  The Mayor was also present. 

As with the beginning of any City Commission meeting we took car of the normal, Minutes from the March meeting (approved) and the Treasure’s Report (approved).

Our first line of business was to approve Mary Bell Balance the Oakland representative on the Planning and Zoning Board.  The resolution passed with no objections. 

Next on the agenda we discussed putting electric service in our park for use by the residence of Oakland during outdoor activities.  It was discussed that I would meet with a couple of contractors to receive bids and further discussion would be held in May.

Mr. Fred Baily was in attendance to discuss the issue of city wide garbage disposal.  This is an issue that we have opened up for bid and will be discussing in May if not sooner.  He was concerned about the frequency of pick up for some individuals. 

Miscellaneous issues:

Financial report: The cities financial statement was received by GOLD, but has not been reviewed by the CPA yet.

Maintenance:  I have been contacted by someone wishing to bid on the mowing in Oakland.  We have a contract with our current vendor and can not open for bids.

Public Works:  I will be contacting WRECC to repair street lights.

Guardrail:  Jimmy Hopkins request permission to a guardrail across from his property to provide easier access to driveway. 

Portable Radios:  In an effort to continue working on our emergency management measures, the city is going to look into the option of purchasing two 900 mhz frequency radios to be available in case of an emergency.  I will check on pricing, grants, or any information that is available.
