June 12, 2007

The June meeting of the Oakland City Commission was held June 12, 2007.  The commissioners present were John Blubaugh, Eric Watt and Tim Hunt.  Jimmy Hopkins was absent.  Jimmy did not report reason for absence.  The Mayor was also present. 

The minutes from the previous meeting and the treasure’s report were approved without any changes. 

The first item on the agenda for June was to send a letter to the bidding agencies on the garbage collection to inform them we will not take any further action at this time.  This item is tabled until further notice. 

Next was a continued discussion about purchasing portable radios.  I spoke to Warren County Emergency Management about extra radios and there are none available at this time.  I will follow up with BRADD to see if maybe there is any grant money available to use. 

Our next item was to send a letter from the city to WRECC to request that they put up two new lights at the end of Mansfield Dr.  These will be on the city bill. 

Electronic Payment feasibility was the next item up for discussion.  This issue was quickly dismissed as an issue that we did not want to be involved in at this time. 

Next we discussed the road repair issue.  Commissioners Blubaugh, Hunt, and Mayor Mansfield will walk through the city after the meeting to discuss road issues and make a recommendation at the July meeting for repairs. 

City Clerk Compensation was the next item on the agenda.  By a unanimous yes the compensation was increased from $50.00 a month to $100.00 per month. 

 

A vacant property commission has been set up to discuss three reported vacant properties.  Led by Commissioner Hopkins and two un-named residents the committee will meet and make a recommendation at the July meeting. 

Miscellaneous Business:

Oakland City Attorney Ms. Harrison has resigned due to be appointed a Judge in Allen/Simpson counties.  We are now in search of a new attorney.

Officer Vance from Smiths Grove was on hand to receive a huge thank you from the commission and the city for the work he does in our city.  Thanks to Smiths Grove and Officer Vance for patrolling and making our streets safer.
