January 9, 2007
The first meeting of the Oakland City Commission was held on January 9, 2007. The commissioners present were John Blubaugh, Tim Hunt, and Eric Watt. Jimmy Hopkins was absent. As promised I will be posting a brief of each meeting and current issues that will affect you as residents.
After some house cleaning issues (minutes from previous meeting, financial reports) that occur at all meetings the main issue discussed was emergency management. A resolution was passed that appointed Mayor Billy Mansfield as the primary contact for the City of Oakland and myself as the secondary contact. Basically the Mayor and I will be the two points of contact between the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management, Warren County Emergency Management and the City of Oakland. The passed resolution will allow mutual aid and assistance between the above listed agencies in the event of any disaster or emergency.
A disaster or emergency is defined as: “A situation or incident declared by the Governor or President that will incur imminent threat of widespread or sever damage, injury or loss of life or property, resulting from any natural, technological, or man made emergency situation that poses a major threat to public safety so as to cause or threaten to cause loss of life, serious injury, significant damage to property, or major harm to public health or the environment.”
The complete mutual aid and assistance agreement will be on file at the City Hall for your viewing at any time.
In addition to the resolution Oakland has adopted its own Emergency/Disaster Preparedness Plan. It will provide a specific plan for the City of Oakland. A copy of this plan will be mailed to each resident and is also available online at oaklandky.com. This will be a year long, developing plan to be in place in case any such emergency or disaster listed above occurs in Oakland. Specific disasters such as a tornado or train accident have been identified as the most immediate threats to us. During the year there will be a training course provided by the Division of Emergency Management to anyone who is interested in taking the course. More information on this will be available later on.
